20TH PENTECOST

TWENTIETH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

TODAY’S GOSPEL IS A LITTLE GROWN UP
DO SINCE WE HAVE SO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE HERE.
I’D WOULD LIKE TO EXPLAIN IT
BY TELLING YOU ANOTHER STORY
CALLED “LOVE YOU FOREVER”
BY ROBERT MUNSCH.

MANY OF YOU MAY KNOW IT.

READ STORY

TODAY’S GOSPEL
IN MANY WAYS PARALLELS
THE STORY WE HAVE JUST HEARD.
THE MOTHER’S LOVE IS OVERWHELMING.
SOMETIMES SILLY.
KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES.
THE SON REACTS TO HIS MOTHER’S LOVE
BY LOVING HIS MOTHER BACK
AND OUT OF THE FULLNESS HE HAS RECEIVED
IS ABLE TO LOVE HIS DAUGHTER.

THE VINEYARD
REPRESENTS ALL THAT GOD
DOES FOR HIS PEOPLE.

GOD MADE A VINEYARD ,
LET’S CALL IT A GARDEN
WHICH HAD EVERYTHING IN IT
TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
GOD THEN GAVE THE GARDEN
TO OTHERS TO MANAGE.

TO OTHERS
WHICH MEANS
HE GAVE IT TO YOU
AND ME
TO TAKE CARE OFF.

AND THIS GARDEN
WAS MEANT TO BE
FOR EVERYONE.
BUT WE CLOSED THE GARDEN.
WE WOULD NOT SHARE WITH ANYONE.

BUT GOD HAD GIVEN THE GARDEN TO US TO RUN.

SO IF THERE IS WAR,
WE HAVE ALLOWED IT
IF THERE IS HUNGER,
WE HAVE ALLOWED IT
IF THERE IS HATRED,
WE HAVE ALLOWED IT
IF THE WORLD IS NOT THE WAY
GOD WANTED HIS GARDEN TO BE
WE HAVE ALLOWED IT

THIS IS OUR FATHER’S WORLD
GIVEN TO US TO RUN

DON’T SAY WE CAN’T CHANGE IT.

JESUS SAID
HE WOULD BE WITH US
FOREVER,
WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
AT HIS SIDE
TO BRING CREATION
BACK TO THE FATHER’S DREAM.

AND TO THE CHILDREN
AT THIS SERVICE
WE HAVE AN OBLIGATION
TO TRY TO MAKE THE WORLD OPERATE
THE WAY GOD WANTS IT TO OPERATE

WE OWE IT TO THE CHILDREN
WE OWE IT TO OURSELVES AND EACH OTHER
WE OWE IT TO GOD
WHO CREATED A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN
DIED THAT THE GARDEN MIGHT FLOWER
DIED THAT THE VINEYARD MIGHT BE FRUITFUL
THAT GRACE MIGHT FLOW FROM THE VINEYARD
THAT GRACE MIGHT FLOW FROM THE GARDEN
LIKE GOD INTENDED IT
THAT GRACE MIGHT FLOW
LIKE GRAPES BEING CRUSHED
TO BE COME OUR DRINK
AND COMBINED WITH THE BREAD
TO BE COME OUR SAVIOR
WHEN WE RECEIVE COMMUNION
AT THIS SERVICE

AMEN
